Aspendos is an ancient Greco-Roman city near Serik, about 40 km east of Antalya on Türkiye's Mediterranean coast. Its 2nd-century-AD Roman theatre is one of the best-preserved in the world, keeping its full stage building standing to its original height, and is famous for acoustics so fine that a voice from the stage carries to the highest row. Beyond the theatre, the site includes a Roman aqueduct, a basilica, the agora, a monumental fountain and the acropolis.

Yes — it is the site's signature. The steep semicircle of seating and the tall stage wall were engineered so that sound projects from the stage to the back rows without amplification. The theatre still hosts live performances, including the annual Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival each summer.

Aspendos is about 40 km east of Antalya (45–55 minutes by car), roughly 35 km from Side and 20 km from Belek. It is a standard stop on organised day tours from Antalya, often combined with Side and nearby waterfalls. There is a car park at the site; from the coast a taxi or hire car is the simplest option.

Aspendos is a fixed stop on the coach-tour circuit, so it is busiest mid-morning, roughly 10:00 to 13:00. Arriving early after opening or later in the afternoon means fewer groups in the theatre. Because your ticket is open-dated, you can choose the day and time that works best.

The theatre is entered on the level, but the stone seating is steep and uneven and the wider site has rough ground and slopes with few made paths. Parts are difficult for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. Contact us before booking if mobility is a concern and we will advise on what is realistic.

Bring water, a hat, sunscreen and comfortable shoes for uneven stone. There is little shade on the open site, so sun protection matters most from late spring to early autumn when the midday heat is intense.
